Widely regarded as one of the world's top downhill mountain bike riders, New Zealander Sam Blenkinsop has been competing professionally for 20 years now and is known for his smooth, powerful riding style.
This summer, he swapped the downhill track for a bikepacking adventure, taking on one of New Zealand's most scenic trails.
Riding 73km along the Queen Charlotte track in the Marlborough Sounds – tackling the grade 3-5 route one way before turning around and pedalling back the following day.

Q&A with Sam
Top tip for multiday bikepacking rides?
It always takes longer than you think, so keep that in mind when you're planning your route. And after the first day it gets easier!
One item you'd never leave home without?
Some sort of mapping. I use my phone and Topo50 Maps – the official topographic map of New Zealand.
Your favourite thing about multi-day rides?
Where they can take you. We have so many amazing places in our backyard here in New Zealand. Sometimes it's good to just get out for a ride and see where it takes you.

"For me, having the aeroe system makes these multi-day missions a breeze, giving me room to carry everything I need without compromising comfort on or off the bike." – Sam Blenkinsop

To carry everything he'd need for this overnighter, Sam used our Spider Rear Rack with 8L Heavy Duty Dry Bag on the rear of his bike, as well as our Spider Handlebar Cradle with 8L Heavy Duty Dry Bag up front. A secure & stable setup for 146km of grade 3-5 trails!
