Bikepacking is the ultimate combination of freedom, exploration, and connection with nature. Add an e-bike, and your adventure takes on new possibilities; flexible route choices, the ability to cover distances and climbs that may not have been possible otherwise, and the freedom to carry all the gear you need.
For Marcus from @fritz_ebike_adventures, the flexibility offered by an e-bike is at the heart of his next project. In early summer 2026, he will set off on an e-bikepacking trip, riding from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Bolzano. Inspired by the historic Via Claudia Augusta, but intentionally expanded to include new, scenic sections.

Planning the perfect route
Over the course of 4 to 5 days, Marcus will ride 50–70km per day — a distance that, with e-bike assistance, leaves plenty of room for cafe stops, photo opportunities, and short detours to viewpoints. Rather than rushing from point to point, each stage is designed to be enjoyed at a relaxed pace.
A key element of his planning is that the tour does not follow a “stay flat at all costs” approach. Instead, it deliberately includes moderate climbs to reach the most rewarding views along the route. On an e-bike, these ascents become highlights rather than challenges.
The sections themselves are varied, relaxed, and intentionally wide, including smooth gravel and natural paths ideal for e-mountain bikes and e-gravel bikes. Daily stages lead through quiet valleys, across scenic mid-elevation ridges, and repeatedly through forests and alpine pastures, giving riders a true sense of the region’s character between Bavaria, Tyrol, and South Tyrol.
Building the ultimate e-mountain bike setup
In preparation for this adventure, Marcus set out to find a bike rack and carrier system that could keep up with the demands of alpine e-bikepacking.
Key requirements were:
✔️ Quick & easy assembly.
✔️ Maximum flexibility for day and multi-day tours.
✔️ Enough space for luggage & camera equipment.
✔️ Absolute stability on dirt roads and light trails.
After several months of intensive testing, the aeroe system proved to be the ideal solution.
"What convinced me most is the combination of stability, build quality, and a design specifically made for modern e-bikes – an essential factor, since the forces acting on a loaded e-bike are significantly higher than in traditional bikepacking."
The full setup:
"Thanks to its solid construction and high-quality materials, the entire system remains torsion-resistant and stable even when fully loaded – a major advantage when motor, battery, and total weight generate substantial dynamic forces. The intuitive mounting is another key benefit: the bags can be attached quickly, balanced perfectly, and removed just as fast. This makes the setup ideal for a multi-day tour like this one."
Getting set up for an alpine e-bikepacking adventure isn’t just about packing a bike – it’s about designing a journey that balances comfort, freedom, and scenery. With a reliable e-bike, stable and secure carrier system, and a thoughtfully planned route, riders can focus on the joy of exploration. Marcus' preparation for his upcoming adventure highlights how ebikes can open up new possibilities for multi-day bikepacking.
